When you arrive in Bergerac, one of the villages in the Périgord classified as a Town of Art and History, explore the old town with a gourmet guided tour during which you will taste local specialities from the South-West.
After these tasty appetisers, have lunch together in a bistro restaurant in the historic district of Bergerac.
Then head in the direction of Brantôme. This charming historical village has rightly been nicknamed the little Venice of the Périgord, because it is surrounded by a meander of the River Dronne which winds at the foot of a cliff. Spend the night there as a couple, in a double room in a guest house or charming hotel.
After breakfast at your guest house or hotel, this second romantic day is dedicated to visiting old Brantôme and especially Saint-Pierre Abbey. There you will find the remains of a Benedictine monastery dug into the limestone cliff in the 8th century. These vestiges are hidden by the monastery buildings: houses, dovecotes, etc. Make a wish before the miracle fountain dedicated to Saint Sicaire, before visiting the enigmatic cave called the “Last Judgement”, with its two monumental bas-reliefs.
The walk continues with a visit to the Fernand Desmoulin Museum, a media artist inspired by spiritualism around 1900. After this food for the soul, it's time to satisfy your body with a well-deserved lunch break in a typical Brantôme restaurant.
In the afternoon, take a small cruise of around 1 hour on the Dronne to discover the historical and exceptional heritage of Brantôme along the river: Pont Coudé bridge, medieval and renaissance houses, the Benedictine abbey, bell tower and the troglodytic dwellings.
Enjoy a romantic dinner in a restaurant with typical Périgord cuisine, before returning for the night to your guest room or charming hotel, still in Brantôme.
For this third and last day in the Dordogne, we take you to visit the Castle of Bourdeilles, which sheltered one of the four Périgord baronies. Classified as a historical monument, Bourdeilles is a magnificent architectural ensemble composed of two castles from different periods, a 13th-century medieval fort and a 16th-century Renaissance palace. It is built on a rocky terrace with a rampart overlooking the Dronne River. A breath-taking view of the valley!
After free time for lunch in the village of Bourdeilles, end your romantic break by discovering the Villars caves, the only cave in the Périgord with original prehistoric paintings and natural concretions.
Visit the Landes between the Atlantic coast and the Pyrenees: an unspoilt environment and land of traditions.
Discover Bordeaux, the vineyards of St Emilion and Blaye Citadel a different way… by bike!
