In Bayonne, the local speciality is unquestionably ham. So there is nothing surprising about visiting a ham salting and drying room, where you will be offered a tasting in a convivial environment. Now that you have an appetite, head to the Halles de Bayonne market for your lunch. On the menu: tapas, deli meats and other local products.
Your afternoon will begin with a guided tour of old Bayonne in a tuk-tuk. Travel through the pedestrian streets of Bayonne to the arena district.
Then take the direction of Biarritz, where on your arrival you will have all the enjoyment of a beautiful stroll along the beach, with a stop at the city casino.
To end this first day, you will dine in a neo-bistro offering a revisited local cuisine. For the night, you will be accommodated in downtown Biarritz, near the beach, in a characterful house with a charming floral garden and a relaxing atmosphere.
Before reaching your destination on this second day, meet local artisans and producers and leave with some culinary souvenirs by taking a break at the Halles de Biarritz.
Along the coast, make a stop at Bidart, a small Basque village located by the sea and offering unobstructed views of the Pyrenees and its ocean beaches. Continue on your way to Guéthary to have lunch on the sandy beach.
Now arrive in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. We suggest a boat trip along the cliffs for a panoramic view of the Basque Corniche of Urrugne and the Pyrenees in the background.
In the evening, dine in a restaurant in the historic centre of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Enjoy an original cuisine based on local products, in a refined decor.
For the night, you will be made to feel welcome in a hotel set in a small independent and typical house with red shutters. Your hotel is ideally located a few metres from the large beach, shops, pedestrian streets, the fishing port, Place Louis XIV and its lively terraces.
Before reaching Hendaye, your morning will start with a stop in Ciboure to visit an unconventional wine and wine-making farm. In Egiategia, Emmanuel, a wine-grower and wine-maker, has his wine vinified in vats 15 metres deep in the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. A guaranteed 100% atypical visit followed by a wine tasting. For lunch, sit on the seafront to enjoy a fish dish “à la plancha”.
Your afternoon will be spent visiting the Abbadia Castle and Observatory. Standing in the middle of a moor on the cliffs of Hendaye, the Abbadia Castle and Observatory is classified as a historical monument. This extraordinary place contains many surprises inspired by the travels of the scientist, Antoine d’Abbadie, who had his castle built in the 19th century. Your visit will include children’s workshops, stargazing, classical music and much more.
Enjoy Bordeaux and its vineyards in the Margaux and Pessac-Léognan wine-growing areas, during the summer season.
